In my school of ministry class, I am taking the class Relationship and Ethics in Ministry. One part of the lessons includes Natural Disasters and War. I thought I would write about it since it seems so prevalent in this generation. More so with natural disasters. We've had earthquakes in Chile, India, Japan, and Haiti. We've had hurricanes in the The Southeast, Texas and Mexico. We've had Tsunami in Hawaii, Japan, and Malaysia. As Christian, what are we supposed to do as we see natural disasters happen around the globe? Do we just sit in front of the television comfortably, saying they deserved this judgment? Or do we see this as an opportunity to show the love of Jesus Christ.
In the first place, I believe we don't have any right to judge other country. I've heard people say that these country deserved it because of their sins, their wicked ways, their ungodliness. Who are we to judge them? Aren't we sinners too? We should show the same mercy and love that Jesus himself has showed us. It's only bring out the wrong kind of attention if we judge.
My course books gives me a verse that really speak. 1 Peter 2:15 says "For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people" With this we should help these other countries in the midst of disasters. It is a time for us to be united and serve the world. What can people say about us if we are helping other in the name of Christ?
May God bless these people who can go out to these disasters sites and distributing food, water, and medicine. May God bless these charities who gather the food, water and medicine. May God bless those who donate money or supplies for these organizations. But alas, what I am supposed to do? I seem like all talk and no action. Which does sadden me. But what else can we do if we can't help like other people can? I believe it's prayer. Something my mentor told me is when God gives us a burden, he is giving us a burden to pray. We must pray for those who are affected by disasters, pray for those who are helping on the front lines, and pray for the charities and disaster relieve efforts. We should be pro active and find ways to serve instead of sitting comfortably at home. I say this because I know I need to pray more for all of these people. Who knows, perhaps I may be victims of a natural disasters.
